Like the award winning ANT Internet Suite, the Internet
Server Suite has been designed with ease of use and flexibility
of mind. Although there are far too many features contained in
the ANT Internet Server Suite to mention here, below is a
list of some of the more prominent features:
 |
Easy to install and configure. |
 |
Uses industry-standard Internet protocols so can be accessed from any type of computer -- Acorn, PC, Macintosh, Unix etc. |
 |
Complete control over which services users can have access to. |
 |
Roaming user profiles: user configuration information is stored on the server and downloaded to the client machine when a user logs on thus removing the need for users to be tied to a single computer. |
 |
Complete Intranet systems can be created, without any access to the Internet. |
 |
User details can be imported (via CSV files) from almost any database system. |
 |
Server can be configured from any remote machine on the network (remote administration). |
 |
RISC OS 3.x compatible. |
Server requirements
The ANT Internet Server Suite will run on any Acorn
computer with RISC OS 3.1 or later, 4Mb or more of RAM, an ARM3
or better, an Ethernet adaptor (network card), and a hard disc.
For larger numbers of users, you should consider an A7000 or
RiscPC, and perhaps an upgrade to a SCSI2 hard disc. Disc
performance is often more important than raw processor speed, so,
for instance, a good SCSI controller and modern, fast hard disc
would be a better investment than a StrongARM upgrade.
The requirements for client computers are listed in the
section Older Acorns.
