Installing the Hardware

This is described in the sheet supplied with the drive, but briefly, this is all you need to do. Make sure that both computer and drive are switched off before you connect or disconnect the printer port lead. It does appear to be common practice to connect drives to an already-running machine but if this is done there is a slight possibility of damage being caused to the computer by static electricity. This applies particularly to older models like the A5000.

  1. Plug the mains lead into the power supply and plug the DIN plug into the socket in the rear of the SparQ drive.
  2. Connect one end of the data lead to the computer's printer port and the other end to the socket marked 'to computer' on the rear of the drive. Your printer can now be connected to the port marked 'to printer' on the rear of the drive.
  3. Switch on the power at the mains socket and at the SparQ on/off switch which is at the rear on the right hand side.
  4. Insert a disc into the drive. Make sure it is pushed right in and firmly down to engage with the mechanism. The green light on the front of the drive should flash and then, after a few seconds, stay on indicating that the drive is ready.
